Three of the best: heart-pumping KTM ads
If there’s one company that manages to really nail the promo video, it’s got to be KTM. Brazenly flaunting an irresponsible, hooliganistic riding style, the Austrian company produces some of the most visceral, thrilling and exciting ads in the bike world. So here’s a few of the best!
1) 990 SuperDuke
Who could forget this one, featuring extravagant wheelies, ghostrider-style commando traffic splitting and hillcrest leaping on the public highways, all neatly intercut with shots of two sweaty blokes pummeling each other in a dusty warehouse to ram home the “streetfighter” angle?
2) RC8 Superbike
This fetishistic promo shows the upcoming 1200cc KTM superbike hanging it all out on track, sideways in, wheelie out of kneedown corners. Excellent!
3) 690 Supermoto
Leaving aside the ridiculous premise, KTM’s message in this one is basically “the world is your motocross track.” The rider blows the brain on his GPS unit by taking shortcuts over roundabouts and through parks and ponds, wheelying down flights of stairs and along bridge handrails to eventually pick up his t-shirt clad girlfriend, who we surmise must be among the 0.05% of pillions who won’t punch kidney until you pee blood if you go around riding like that.
I hope KTM’s marketing department steadfastly refuses to grow up as it gains market share with its brilliant streetbikes. These ads say so much about the freedom and exhilaration of riding. Nice work guys!

[…] If it looks a bit like a Superduke, that’s not surprising. Jacouba spent a lot of time with KTM’s groundbreaking brawler while he was shooting the promo video I’ve been going on about lately. […]
